Magic Study (Study #2) by Maria V. Snyder

Magic Study
Published by: Mira
Paperback Length: 448 pages

Forced to flee to Ixia's neighboring country Sitia, Yelena has two goals in mind: learn to control her newfound abilities, and to meet her family for the very first time. Although has been torn from Marek, she has no choice but to run for her life when the Ixian Commander discovers she is a magician (a title Yelena has only just learned to accept). The plot thickens when Yelena is captured by the self-proclaimed heir to the Ixian throne who plans to use her in a plot to recapture the country. She is forced to discover new abilities and reconsider where her allegiance lies when the Master Magicians discover dark magic being used in Sitia and need Yelena to save innocent lives. It seems she is simultaneously feared and needed everywhere, and the twist will make Yelena understand why...

WOW..I love this series! The adventure continues as Yelena remains her usual kick-butt self (shoot first, act questions later). All of her new abilities are seriously sweet! Though I miss Marek, Ari, and Janco, Snyder doesn't disappoint with a whole new set of really amazing characters including Yelena's horse Kiki, who quickly became my new favorite.

The new setting was cool to read about, and you get to see into the lives of the Sitian citizens. It's like a whole new story from the first one, something I always appreciate in a series. It flowed with the first book, but wasn't a constant recap story where you feel like nothing new happens. It was its own story with a brand new plot, which I really appreciated.

Speaking of the story, it was pretty exciting! From the beginning it made my heart jump and beat faster. I was genuinely scared for her at times! When Marek would show up it was like ka-ching! A perfect story!

I also think it's worth mentioning that my mom also read Poison Study and Magic Study with me, and very quickly at that! She got just as into it as I did, and couldn't wait to buy the third. That's when you know you have an amazing series.

4.9/5!
